Geometry

Understand lines, angles, shapes, circles and coordinates.

Understand the concept

Geometry helps us describe shapes and reason about their lengths, angles and positions. Properties such as parallel lines, equal sides and right angles let us find unknown measurements without relying only on a drawing.

Important ideas across Grades 7 to 10 include angle relationships, triangles, circles and coordinate geometry. Diagrams should always be interpreted using the properties that are stated or marked.

Example

Worked example

Find the distance between two points

Find the distance between A(1, 2) and B(4, 6).

  1. Find the horizontal difference: 4 − 1 = 3.
  2. Find the vertical difference: 6 − 2 = 4.
  3. Distance = √(3² + 4²) = √25 = 5.

Answer The points are 5 units apart.
